Data Foundry’s Texas 1 data center designed to support High Performance Computing environments

Data Foundry, a leading provider of data center outsourcing and colocation services, announces that its master-planned Texas 1 facility, opening June 2011, will fully support High Performance Computing (HPC) requirements. This next-generation data center includes the design, staff and facility infrastructure to meet the complex needs of HPC customers.

Historically, the unique requirements of HPC systems have forced companies to build their own facilities rather than outsourcing to a colocation provider. These in-house facilities represent long-term capital deployments which are out of sync with the much shorter lifetimes of HPC servers. Data Foundry recognized this need and incorporated elements supporting HPC demands throughout the Texas 1 infrastructure. Its chilled water plant design allows Data Foundry to separate HPC cooling from traditional room airflow. In this way, water-cooled cabinets can reach today’s power density demand of 50kW per cabinet and will accommodate the higher limits of the future. Through custom liquid cooling systems, Texas 1 is able to satisfy the needs of HPC users across a variety of industries such as higher education, oil and gas, and finance.

“Data Foundry fully understands what is important to HPC users,” states Edward Henigin, Chief Technology Officer of Data Foundry. “Texas 1 supports high floor loads, private suites starting at 2,500 SF and flexible configurations including chimney cabinets, hot or cold aisle containment, and customized liquid cooling solutions. Our 24×7 expert staff has years of experience in layout design and CFD modeling, creating optimal solutions for our customers.”

As part of a 40-acre, 100 megawatt data center development named the Data Ranch, Texas 1 is an ideal site for HPC configurations. Open in June 2011, Texas 1 will be the first data center in the Central Texas region designed from the ground up to support HPC requirements.
