Due to the superior work our infrastructure experts have done with structured cabling for our customers’ deployments, we’ve been asked to complete several cabling projects outside our data centers. The clean-cut and highly detailed work of our cabling team has lead us to launch an official Data Foundry Structured Cabling service as part of our infrastructure services.
It is not uncommon to see data center deployments grow messy over time with the addition of new equipment as a result of poor planning and a lack of cabling best practices. Messy cabling can cause a lack of air circulation from overcrowding which results in overheating and higher energy costs. Unplanned cabling can also result in the use of more switches and power supplies than necessary. It’s extremely difficult to scale in a deployment where cabling was not implemented without proper planning. It’s also difficult to troubleshoot a connectivity problem when cables aren’t properly labeled and organized.
In addition to having an attractive data center deployment, the benefits of properly structured cabling are many. Certified technicians who follow ISO and TIA best practices implement structured cabling with future growth in mind. Cable pathways or routes are set up ahead of time to accommodate maximum capacity. Structured cabling also provides flexibility and allows for easy modifications of connections between devices.
Data Foundry’s structured cabling service includes:
- An assessment of current cabling or future deployment
- Consultation to choose materials and cable management system
- Labeling at both ends of cables
- Testing and results
- Detailed documentation of architecture
At Data Foundry we are so confident in our structured cabling deployments that we offer a warranty on parts and labor that includes 24 x 7 x 365 support for the lifetime of the customers’ deployments.
