Generators Arrive at Texas 1 Data Center

Jan 25, 2011 | Data Centers

State-of-the-art power management is a requirement for any data center to run smoothly and efficiently. It is imperative for a data center to ensure ALL back up methods are in place. Therefore, selecting a data center’s backup generators is of utmost importance to ensure that all servers remain running no matter what.

Making sure to select only the best equipment for our data center, Data Foundry chose Caterpillar, Inc., the proven leader in the power generation marketplace. Measuring in at 22 feet long, 9-and-a-half feet tall, and 40,600 pounds, Texas 1’s generators are Caterpillar 3516C HD generators, each complete with a V16, 2.5MW engine. These powerful 3,352 HP, 78-liter engines are ready for action when needed.

The generators are configured in an isolated-redundant fashion, preventing a cascading failure from affecting the entire system. With N+1 redundancy, if one generator fails, the remaining ones will carry the load without interruption. Customers can rest assured that our generators and UPS systems will maintain continuous and smooth operations, even if utility power fails.

Texas 1 – where reliability is built into every last detail.

This Texas 1 generator is capable of driving almost 4,000 amps of power within the data center.

On the far right, the black structure is the generator’s radiator and cooling fan, which will blow 100,000 cubic feet per minute (cfm) of air.

This is a silencer that will affix to the generator’s exhaust.

Three of the six generators are in place.

Here is one of our generators with the exhaust attached to the silencer.
