Anonymous, a notorious international network of hacktivists, launched OpSacred on June 11, 2017. OpSacred is an organized DDoS attack effort on financial institutions around the world. Anonymous is known for its DDoS attacks on government and corporate websites, and they are self-described as having “a decentralized command structure that operates on ideas rather than directives.” OpSacred is the continuation of a larger operation called OpIcarus (Operation Icarus), and OpSacred is expected to continue until June 21.

As business continuity and data recovery become more essential for companies across the board, there is a growing demand for an efficient backup solution that can cover a variety of workloads. We’re pleased to announce a new managed service for our colocation customers, Managed Backup. Our Managed Backup service is a leading enterprise backup solution that allows users to backup or recover terabytes of data in minutes, not hours.

Data Foundry is now an official Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute Partner. ExpressRoute is a private, dedicated network connection between Microsoft Azure data centers and our customers’ IT environments. Azure ExpressRoute is one of the multiple paths to the cloud included in Data Foundry’s CloudTap service. CloudTap™ provides secure, end-to-end private connections to top cloud service providers such as AWS, CenturyLink, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure.

This holiday season we’re looking back on the eventful and exciting year that 2016 has been for Data Foundry, and as a company, we have a lot to be thankful for. We’ve seen healthy growth in the Austin and Houston markets, which has led to the kick off of the development of another data center for us in Austin, Texas 2, just one year after the completion of our Houston 2 data center. We’ve added several new managed services to our services portfolio, and we moved into a new corporate office just west of downtown Austin.

We are excited to announce the construction of Texas 2, Data Foundry’s fifth Texas data center. Texas 2 will accompany Texas 1 on the Data Ranch at our headquarters in Austin, and will be 325,000 square feet upon completion of the final phase. Texas 2 will provide retail and wholesale colocation space, and it is designed to support high density deployments up to 50 kW per cabinet.

An article posted on Data Center Knowledge back in May states, “It’s clear that the cloud should be part of your IT strategy, even if your team has yet to determine how to leverage it.” Data Foundry recognizes the advantages cloud services offer, and as a result, we have added Cloud Services to our managed services offering.

Due to the superior work our infrastructure experts have done with structured cabling for our customers’ deployments, we’ve been asked to complete several cabling projects outside our data centers. The clean-cut and highly detailed work of our cabling team has lead us to launch an official Data Foundry Structured Cabling service as part of our infrastructure services.

Ron Yokubaitis received the Internet Infrastructure Coalition’s (i2Coalition) first award for Internet Community Leadership at the Smarter Internet Forum in Philadelphia, PA today. Ron has been a leader in the Internet sphere since 1994 when he co-founded Texas.net in San Antonio, TX. Since then, he and his wife Carolyn have gone on to establish Data Foundry, Giganews(a Usenet provider) and Golden Frog (Internet security solutions). The fight for Internet privacy, open Internet and laying the groundwork for innovation are important priorities for Ron and for Data Foundry. Because of his leadership and activism to drive change in U. S. Internet policy, the i2Coalition has officially named the award the Ron Yokubaitis Internet Community Leadership Award.

Data Foundry CTO, Edward Henigin, participated as a panelist at the INCOMPAS telecommunications conference in Washington D.C. on April 12. The assembled panel of security experts sought to bring the industry’s attention to the anti-encryption debate that has sparked in Washington and around the country due to Apple’s refusal to unlock the iPhone encryption for the San Bernardino case. The recent release of the Burr-Feinstein bill proposing law enforcement be given access to data in an “intelligible” format upon court order also provoked a wave of anger and disbelief throughout the tech community.
